The Importance of Being Earnest
by Oscar Wilde
Emerald Theatre’s The Importance of Being Earnest will be performed in local gardens and parks in July and August, The Importance of Being Earnest follows the hilarious escapades of two charming bachelors: Jack Worthing, who invents a fictional alter ego named "Ernest" to escape social obligations and and Algernon Moncrieff, who also uses the name "Ernest," as they both woo their respective love interests, Gwendolen and Cecily. Their deceptions lead to a whirlwind of mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and laugh-out-loud chaos, all while Wilde skewers the superficiality and hypocrisy of the upper class with his signature wit and razor-sharp social commentary.
